How to get from Alcudia to Can Picafort
Navigating Mallorcas north coast by bus, foot, and bike

Are you wondering how do I get from Alcudia to Can Picafort or vice-versa? No problem, I’ve got you covered.

During my holidays in Mallorca last winter, I stayed in Can Picafort. As I had decided to discover the islands north without a car, I did the journey between Can Picafort and Alcudia in all possible ways several times: by bus, by foot and by bike.

Read on, to find out everything you need to know on the different options to get from Alcudia to Can Picafort or the other way around.

Alcudia Can Picafort by bus

The easiest and quickest way to get from one town to the other is by using public transport.

Bus Service Overview

The bus route connecting Alcudia and Can Picafort is serviced by the TIB (Transport de les Illes Balears), which operates the public transport system on Mallorca. The buses are modern, comfortable, and equipped with air conditioning, so no problem even during the hot summer months.

Route and Timetable

Be aware that there are more buses connecting Alcudia and Can Picafort in summer than in winter. During the colder months, there is typically only the bus 302 providing a direct connection between the two towns.

In summer the buses 315, 324, 325 and A32 are running that same route. Travel time is approximately 30 to 40 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.

The buses stop in Port d’Alcúdia, Platja d’Alcúdia and Platja de Muro along the way from Alcudia to Can Picafort.

In summer, buses run frequently throughout the day, with service starting early in the morning and continuing until late in the evening. During peak tourist season, the frequency of buses increases to accommodate the higher demand.

My tip: Check the latest timetable and plan your trip accordingly, especially in the shoulder and off- season as schedules can vary seasonally and during holidays.

Ticketing and Fares

Tickets can be purchased directly from the bus driver upon boarding. The fare from Alcudia to Can Picafort is €4,50 per person if you buy your ticket on the bus in cash. If you use your bank card (debit or visa) and pay wireless, the fare is reduced to € 2,70 per person.

Important: You will have to swipe your bank card when you enter and again when you leave!

If you’re planning to use the bus service extensively across the island, my advice is to purchase a multi-trip card or a day pass for greater convenience and savings.

Bus stops

In Alcudia, the main bus stop is located near the historic old town and the port area, making it easy to find. In Can Picafort, buses typically stop along the main tourist areas and the beachfront, ensuring that visitors can easily reach their destinations.

Tips for Travelers

  • Check the latest bus schedules on the TIB website or at bus stops, as they are subject to change.
  • Do not pay cash but pay by credit or debit card when boarding the bus in order to save money
  • During the summer months, buses can get crowded, so plan your journey outside peak hours if possible for a more comfortable trip.

Beach walk Alcudia Can Picafort

If you have the time, you should do the beach walk Alcudia Can Picafort or vise versa! It is the perfect walk to get away from it all! Once you get past the main tourist area, this beautiful beach walk will lead you to some more secluded coves.

So cool: With a few exceptions, you can do this beach walk barefoot.

From the old town of Alcudia, you can ease your way to the beach at Port d’Alcudia by walking through the ruins of the ancient Roman city of Pol.lènti. Alternatively, you can take the bus to the beach or walk along the road to the right of the archaeological site.

The chapel of Oratori de Santa Anna is worth stopping at. This small church was built in the second half of the 13th century in the Gothic style and is considered the oldest on the island.

Take the roundabout and Av. de la Platja to reach the lively beach of Port d’Alcúdia. The Platja d’Alcúdia is 3.5 km long, has a white sandy beach and is very popular with families as there is no current and the access to the sea is very easy and gentle.

Now, you can take off your shoes and put them in your backpack. You won’t need them much longer.

From here on, it is really just a walk along the water. But beware: ambitious parents like to build their sandcastles on this beautiful beach, which you better avoid if you don’t want to incur their wrath.

Great photo opportunities along the way include the long wooden jetties that extend far into the ocean at various points. The turquoise water and the white beach make for Caribbean-style photos.

Info: If you do not like sand and do not want to walk directly on the beach, you can use the beach promenade until the Carrer Orchidies. This street is packed with restaurants, bars, hotels and souvenir shops.

At some point the beach is called Platja de Muro without changing anything else. There are still large hotel buildings on the shoreside, although there may be a few less people on the beach.

Playa de Muro is the longest sandy beach in Mallorca and consists of four areas with a total length of six kilometers.

While areas 1, 2 and 4 are quite touristy as the hotels are right next to them, the natural area 3 belongs to the Natural Park of S’Albufera and is surrounded by sand dunes and pine trees.

The Alcudia Can Picafort beach walk passes this expansive beach with soft sand and a small gathering of beachgoers. It features a distinctive red and white lighthouse to the right. The calm ocean extends towards a hazy mountain range under a partly cloudy sky.

The area within the S’Albufera Natural Park is also the most secluded and beautiful stretch of beach! To cross the Canal Grande, you have to leave the shoreline and use the Pont dels Angelesos bridge.

Here you have the option of walking along the canal, on the left-hand side, about 1 km inland, to the information center of the nature park.

The Albufera Natural Park is the most important wetland area in the Balearic Islands and is home to more than 200 different species of birds.

Continuing along the seemingly endless beach, you will notice the Torre d’Enfilació in the dunes. There are 28 of these observation towers between Port d’Alcudia and Colònia de Sant Pere.

They were built by the Spanish Navy between 1940 and 1945 in pairs at a distance of 1,240 meters and were used by the Spanish fleet between 1941 and 1970 during military exercises to determine their position using deck and cross bearings.

Now it’s not far to the seaside resort of Can Picafort. From here, and also from many points along the main road along the beach, there are several bus lines that run every 15 minutes back to the old town of Alcúdia. So you can take the bus back at any time.

Alcudia Can Picafort by bike

The bike ride Alcudia Can Picafort is approximately 10 to 15 kilometers (6 to 9 miles) long, depending on your exact starting and ending points.

There are lots of great cycling routes in Mallorca, but the route from Alcudia to Can Picafort does not belong in that category.

The most common cycling path between Alcudia and Can Picafort is along the MA-12 road, which has a dedicated bike lane for much of the way. The terrain is mostly flat and well-paved but away from the beach and the nice views over the sea.

The ride is doable but most certainly no fun as that main street is very busy and as a cyclist you are always right next to the car lane, allowing drivers to bypass you with 90km/hrs (56miles/hrs).

Points of Interest

Along the route, you can enjoy several points of interest, if you are leaving the main street:

  • S’Albufera Natural Park: Located roughly halfway between Alcudia and Can Picafort, this natural reserve is a haven for birdwatchers and nature lovers. There are designated spots to lock up your bike and take a stroll along the walking paths.
  • Beach Stops: The route offers numerous opportunities to stop at beautiful beaches for a quick swim or a relaxing break. Playa de Muro and Son Bauló are two popular spots along the way. You can’t drive parallel to the beach, but you can easily reach it via secondary dead-end roads.

Final thoughts on how to get from Alcudia to Can Picafort

Getting from Alcudia to Can Picafort can be done by bus, bicycle or on foot. However, taking the bus is the best and most stress-free option. The bus service between these two towns is efficient, frequent, and inexpensive.

As much as I am a fan of outdoor activities, I do not recommend the cycle path between Alcudia and Can Picafort as you will be driving along a main road for the entire duration.

The beach walk between Port d’Alcudia and Can Picafort should be on your to-do list of outdoor activities when staying in the area.

Walking along the coast with the panoramic views of the coastline is a peaceful and unforgettable experience and for me, it belongs to one of the best hikes in Mallorca.
